Pricing Carbon Pollution: A Big Climate Solution
Join NAZCCA and Shawn Newell of Flagstaff Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL) for a briefing on current legislation aimed to reduce fossil fuel emissions and learn how you can help solve climate change! Shawn will give background to the bill, the progress that has been made, and how this national legislation if passed, could be a major step forward to get us into clean energy.
Flagstaff Chapter of the Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL) is an international volunteer organization that works to build political will for a national carbon fee and dividend policy. CCL has worked tirelessly in Northern AZ in support of a national price on carbon - widely recognized as an essential element of a climate change solution at the scale and in the time-frame we need. The Flagstaff CCL team were instrumental in getting a resolution from the City of Flagstaff urging Congress to pass carbon fee and dividend legislation:
The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act of 2019 was introduced in the House (H.R. 763) earlier this session. It’s a strong bipartisan bill following the carbon fee and dividend model—effective, good for people, good for the economy, and revenue neutral, so won't grow government as it uses the market to drive emissions down to 90% of 2016 emissions by 2050.

Flagstaff Climate Action Town Hall
Join Elder's Climate Action and our Flagstaff Community partners for a non-partisan intergenerational, multicultural and interfaith Faces of Climate Action Town Hall Meeting focused on the Climate Emergency.
The Climate Town Hall meetings will bring together intergenerational, multicultural, and interfaith communities to address the urgency of the climate crisis and the necessity for immediate action. The intent is to bring diverse voices together to interact with local, state, and federal officials. Working through community partners, Elders Climate Action (ECA) is reaching out to elders, families, youth, and all individuals to come together to discuss climate issues, innovations, and solutions.
Guest speakers include Coral Evans, Mayor of Flagstaff; AZ Senator Jamescita Peshlakai; AZ Representatives Arlando Teller and Myron Tsosie; alongside a number of climate experts and activists; moderated by David McCain.
We’re working to build bridges to climate action, not wedges!

About the presentation
Recent climate change analyses have called for swift and extensive interventions to avert climate catastrophe. Although climate change poses significant threats to Arizona and beyond society has not mobilized to address these challenges. In particular, 'solutions' put forward not only do not address the root driver of the problems they often prove counterproductive. This talk will outline why the solutions put forward will not solve the climate crisis and will instead put forward alternative interventions that society will need to implement if we hope to minimize future temperate increases and associated consequences.
